As most American families will tell you, Ebenezer Scrooge and George Bailey got off easy--true life Christmases are much trickier to navigate. Shackled-ghosts and never-been-born scenarios are tough, sure, but that's nothing compared with a typical mother trying to gather her contentious family members together without the house blowing up on Christmas Eve. Welcome to the Crossland family, a distinctly American group of troublemakers, dreamers, cynics, and misfits who never seem to get through the holiday season without a major family meltdown. As oldest son Jonathan, the narrator of the play, will tell you, the Crossland's Christmas celebrations usually end up like a cross between an episode of "The Waltons" and the last 20 minutes of "The Departed." But hope remains that this will be the year that everything will go according to plan, that the family will finally experience a "normal" Christmas, the kind that "Hallmark Channel" movies celebrate year after year. Maybe...
"True Life Christmas Disasters" is a modern-day look at the unpredictability and wonder of the season, as seen through the eyes of a tempestuous but generous-hearted family of eccentrics.
